Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team lost their home opening North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game of the season on Sunday at the newly renovated Soccer/Lax Complex to the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College by a 6-2 margin. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 0-5 overall with a 0-2 mark in conference play on the season while the Wildcats improve to 3-3 overall including a perfect 2-0 record in conference action.
Trailing 3-0 in the first half the Fighting Tigers broke their recent scoring draught when junior defender
Corey Johnson, Brooklyn, N.Y., Abraham Lincoln High School, drilled home a penalty kick in the 30
th minute to cut the deficit to 3-1. However the Wildcats would then respond with a pair of goals; to take a 5-1 advantage into the break.
In the second half the Orange & Black also found the back of the net in the 48
th minute when sophomore midfielder David Volsatka, Schenevus, N.Y., Schenevus High School, took a pass from freshman midfielder
Alan Jimenez, Rockland, N.Y., Ramapo High School, and drilled home a short shot to cut the Wildcats lead to 5-2. However that was as close as they would come Wildcat senior defender Conor Cahalan, Cohoes, N.Y., Shaker High School, would score his third goal of the day in the 73
rd minute to cement the Cazenovia victory.
Cobleskill will return to action on Saturday September 26
th when they host Arcadia University at the Soccer/Lax Complex for a non-league contest with kick-off set for 1:00 p.m.
