Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball went on a first quarter opening 17-to-2 run and never looked back in a 69-47 win over the visiting Phoenix of Wilson College on Sunday afternoon in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) at the Iorio Gymnasium. The conference victory improves the Fighting Tigers to 4-7 overall with a 3-3 record in NEAC play while the Phoenix fall to 2-9 overall including a 0-8 mark in conference contests.
The Fighting Tigers dominated the backboards in the contest out rebounding their visitors by a 51-24 margin while holding the Phoenix to only 17-of-56, 30.4%, from the field in the contest including 3-for-16, 18.8%, from beyond the three-point line.
Junior
Shiann Coons, Albany, N.Y., Bishop Maginn High School/Schenectady Community College, led the team in scoring with 18 points to go with six rebounds and a pair of assists supported by junior forward
Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, who recorded a double/double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Nia Moore, Est Greenbush, N.Y., Columbia High School, was also a factor in the win coming off the bench to score a career high of 14 points as was freshman forward
Morgan Bullis, Bainbridge, N.Y., Bainbridge-Guilford High School, who had 10 rebounds, four points and three blocked shots in her first career college home start.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Wednesday when they travel to Cazenovia, N.Y. to take on the Wildcats of Cazenovia College in NEAC action beginning at 7:00 p.m.
