Women's Basketball Loses 59-54 Decision at College of Saint Elizabeth

Fighting Tigers Three Game Winning Streak Ends as Eagles Post Comeback Victory

Morristown, N.J.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team let one slip away on Thursday evening as the visiting Fighting Tigers dropped a 59-54 decision to the host Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. The loss ends the team's three-game winning streak and drops Cobleskill to 6-8 overall on the year including a 5-4 conference record while the Eagles improve to 6-10 overall with a 6-5 mark in NEAC play.

The Fighting Tigers controlled the contest throughout the first three quarters, despite committing 32 turnovers on the evening, leading by as many as 12 points and held a 54-49 advantage with 1:19 left in regulation. From that point on the Cobleskill offense went cold committing three turnovers and going 0-for-3 from the floor over their last six possessions while the defense became porous allowing the comeback minded Eagles to convert on three lay-ups in four shot opportunities down the stretch. The Eagles also converted on 4-of-4 free throw opportunities in the last 12 seconds to cement the home court conference win.

Junior forward Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, once again led the Orange & Black's attack with 16 points and 16 rebounds while  junior guard Shiann Coons, Albany, N.Y., Bishop Maginn High School/Schenectady Community College, added 10 points, five rebounds and a pair of assists and senior guard/forward Ashley Creighton, Niskayuna, N.Y., Catholic Central High School/Schenectady Community College, chipping in 10 points, six rebounds and four assists on the night. Freshman forward Morgan Bullis, Bainbridge, N.Y., Bainbridge-Guilford High School, was also a factor in the contest with nine points, nine rebounds, and a blocked shot on the evening.

The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Saturday January 30th when they host the NEAC North Division leading Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute in conference action beginning at 3:00 p.m.
