Fighting Tigers Fall at Home to League Leading SUNY Polytechnic 68-60

Creighton Leads Fighting Tigers with 22 Points in Losing Effort

SUNY COBLESKILL WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM FALLS TO SUNY POLYTECHNIC 68-60 IN NEAC ACTION

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Polytechnic Institute women's basketball teams spent Saturday afternoon locked in what could best be described as an old school slugfest at the Cobleskill's Iorio Gymnasium. When the battle ended it was the visiting Wildcats emerging from the battle with a hard fought 68-60 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over the host Fighting Tigers. The loss drops Cobleskill to 6-9 overall including a 5-5 mark versus NEAC opponents while the Wildcats remain on top of the conference's North Division with a 12-4 overall record which includes a perfect 9-0 record in league action.

The visiting Wildcats jumped out to a first period 12-2 lead and never looked back despite several Fighting Tiger rallies which cut the lead to one possession over the course of the contest. The home team rallied to within three-points at 61-58 with 1:57 remaining in regulation before the visitors went on a 7-to-2 run to close out the game going 7-for-8 from the charity stripe to secure the win.

Senior guard/forward Ashley Creighton, Niskayuna, N.Y., Catholic Central High School/Schenectady Community College, had 22 points and four rebounds on the afternoon for the home team while junior guard Shiann Coons, Albany, N.Y./Bishop Maginn High School/Schenectady Community College, had 11 points to go with four rebounds and two assists.

Cobleskill also received a double/double from junior forward Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, with 10 points and 10 assists with sophomore guard Nia Moore, East Greenbush, N.Y., Columbia High School, chipping in 10 points, four rebounds and two assists off the bench in the contest.

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Wednesday February 3rd when they host the Wildcats of Cazenovia College for an NEAC game with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
