SUNY Cobleskill Women's Soccer Drops 3-1 NEAC Decision to Penn State Abington

Second Half Defensive Lapses Hurt Fighting Tigers in 3-1 Loss to Nittany Lions

Abington, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team dropped a hard fought 3-1 decision to host Penn State Abington on Saturday afternoon in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 2-8 overall including a 0-7 record in league play while the Nittany Lions improve to 6-4 with a 5-2 mark versus NEAC opponents.

The Fighting Tigers grabbed the early lead win in the 19th minute of the contest when junior forward Morganne Dick, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School, took a long thru ball from junior defender Miranda Rys, Turin, N.Y., South Lewis High School/Mohawk Valley Community College, and beat the keeper one-on-one in the box to give Cobleskill a 1-0 lead.

The visitors would hold that advantage at halftime until the second half when the Nittany Lions scored three times within a four minute segment to put the game out of reach.

Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Springstead, Staten Island, N.Y., Notre Dame Academy, was stellar in net for the Orange & Black recording 11 saves in the contest as Cobleskill was outshot 28-to-4 and out corner kicked 8-to-1 on the afternoon.

The Fighting Tigers will conclude their Pennsylvania road trip on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Bryn Athyn, Pa. to meet the Lions of Bryn Athyn College in NEAC action with kick-off slated for 12:00 p.m.
