Fighting Tiger Women's Soccer Blanks Hampshire College 2-0

Cobleskill Women End Four-Game Losing Streak With Road Win at Hampshire College


Amherst, Mass.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team broke a four-game losing streak on Thursday afternoon defeating host Hampshire College by a 2-0 margin in non-conference action. The victory improves the Fighting Tigers to 3-9 overall on the year while the loss drops Hampshire to 4-7 overall.

Cobleskill scored twice in the first half to put the game out of reach as junior midfielder Sarah Mellor, Schenevus, N.Y., Schenevus High School, scored the eventual game winner in the ninth minute of play for the Fighting Tigers followed by an insurance goal in the 44th minute of the contest by freshman forward Kelsey Martin, Scotia, N.Y., Scotia-Glenville High School, which sealed the win for the visitors.

Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Springstead, Staten Island, N.Y., Notre Dame Academy, recorded 12 saves to hold the lead for the Orange & Black posting her second shutout of the season and improving to 3-9 overall in net.

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday October 15th when they host the Wildcats of Penn College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action beginning at 12:00 p.m.
