Fighting Tigers Post 5-3 Win Over Visiting Bison on Sunday

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team extended their current winning streak to three games on a windy Sunday afternoon with a 5-3 win over visiting North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Gallaudet University in league action. The victory improves the Fighting Tigers to 6-10 overall on the year including a 2-9 mark in NEAC play while the Bison fall to 2-14 including a 1-12 conference record.

With wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour keeping things lively on the field; Cobleskill scored a pair of first half goals to take a 2-0 advantage into the locker room as senior forward Kimberly Sullivan, Dedham, Mass., Norfolk County Agricultural High School, from close range on a rebound in the 19th minute then junior midfielder Sarah Mellor, Schenevus, N.Y., Schenevus High School, connected on a blast from 18-yards away in the 36th minute.

After the Bison had cut the lead to 2-1 in the 47th minute, junior forward Morganne Dick, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School, went to work scoring three goals and assisting on Kimberly Sullivan's second goal of the afternoon to put the contest out of reach of the visitors.

Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Springstead, Staten Island, N.Y., Notre Dame Academy, posted the victory for the home team making 10 saves versus the Bison and the winds to secure the outcome.

Cobleskill is next scheduled to host the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute in NEAC action on Saturday October 29th beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Fighting Tigers Soccer/Lax Complex.
