Reading, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team used a big fourth quarter to defeat host Penn State Berks by a 78-69 tally in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action on Sunday afternoon. With the road victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 8-14 overall on the campaign with a 7-9 NEAC record while the Nittany Lions now fall to 3-18 overall including a 3-14 record in conference play.
The Fighting Tigers tailed 53-51 heading into the period before outscoring their hosts 27-16 to secure the victory. With the score tied at 61-61 with 4:27 remaining in regulation Cobleskill went on an 11-0 run highlighted by five points from junior point guard Tegan Matthew, Galway, N.Y., Galway High School, and four points from junior forward
Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, to put the game out of reach of the Nittany Lions.
Shelby Preston once again led the visitor's attack with 18 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots while senior guard/forward
Ashley Creighton, Niskayuna, N.Y., Catholic Central High School/Schenectady Community College, added 18 points, five rebounds and four assists on the afternoon.
The Orange & Black also received another strong outing from freshman forward
Morgan Bullis, Bainbridge, N.Y., Bainbridge-Guilford High School, who had 15 points and nine rebounds with
Tegan Matthews chipping in eight points and five assists to the team's victory totals.
Cobleskill will next take the court on Wednesday February 17
th when they meet the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton in non-league action beginning at 6:00 p.m.
