Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team kept their hopes for a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship tournament bid alive on Wednesday evening by defeating the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College 62-52 at the Iorio Gymnasium. The victory ends a three-game Fighting Tiger losing streak and improves their overall record to 7-10 on the year including a 6-5 record in NEAC play while the Wildcats now fall to 4-12 overall with a 1-9 conference record.
The Fighting Tigers' defense played a major role in the victory holding Cazenovia to only 16-of-61, 26.2%, from the field including 6-of-22, 27.3%, from three-point range. Cobleskill blocked a season high of six shots on the evening while controlling the backboard by a 54-to-41 margin on the night.
The Orange & Black used an inside height advantage throughout the evening as freshman forward
Morgan Bullis, Bainbridge, N.Y., Bainbridge-Guilford High School, had perhaps her best collegiate outing with a team high 18 points, to go with eight rebounds, three blocked shots and a pair of assists while junior forward
Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, added 12 points, a gamed high 16 rebounds, two blocked shots and two assists to the team's victory totals. Freshman center
Brianna Florian, Fort Plain, N.Y., Fort Plain High School, was also a factor in the paint for the victors coming off the bench to score eight points and grab three rebounds.
The Cobleskill outside players were led by senior guard/forward
Ashley Creighton, Niskayuna, N.Y., Catholic Central High School/Schenectady Community College, who had 10 points and took down five rebounds in the win and by sophomore guard
Nia Moore, East Greenbush, N.Y., Columbia High School, who scored seven points, passed out five assists and grabbed four rebounds in a reserve role.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday February 6
th when they host league rival Bryn Athyn College with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
