Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team tuned up for Sunday's Super Bowl by out clawing the visiting Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington by a 66-63 margin in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action at Cobleskill's Iorio Gymnasium. The victory improves the Fighting Tigers to 3-17 overall on the season to date including a 3-9 mark in the NEAC while the Nittany Lions now fall to 3-17 over with a 3-10 conference record.
The Fighting Tigers broke the contest open down the stretch after the Nittany Lions tied the game for the fifth time at 60-60 with 1:49 left in regulation going on a 6-0 run to give them a 36 seconds left highlighted by a crossover jumper from 18 feet by junior swingman
Brian Jackson, Bronx, N.Y., Global Enterprise Academy, and free throws from junior swingman
Frank D'Esti, Vestal, N.Y., Vestal High School/Broome Community College, and sophomore guard
Malik Chambers, West Point, N.Y., James I. O'Neil High School, to post the win.
Jackson led the Cobleskill scoring with 14 points to go with three rebounds while Chambers contributed 14 points and two assists to the victory totals. Junior point guard
Quincey Miller, Brooklyn, N.Y., Lafayette High School/Valdosta State College, had 11 points, nine rebounds and three assists in the win with
Frank D'Esti chipping 10 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists for the home team.
The Fighting Tigers will close out the home portion of their home schedule on Wednesday February 10
th when they host the Mustangs of Morrisville State College in NEAC action beginning at 5:00 p.m. as the teams renew one of the oldest rivalries in New York State College men's basketball history. Â Â
