Women's Basketball Loses in Overtime to Penn State Abington 62-55

Fighting Tigers Drop NEAC Decision to Nittany Lions in Overtime


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss in overtime on Sunday afternoon to visiting Penn State Abington in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play by a 62-55 margin at the Iorio Gymnasium. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 7-12 overall on the season including a 6-7 NEAC record while the Nittany Lions improve to 12-6 overall with an 8-6 record versus league opponents.

The Fighting Tigers took a 49-46 advantage on a pair of free throws by junior guard Shiann Coons, Albany, N.Y., Bishop Maginn High School/Schenectady Community College, with 20 seconds remaining in regulation.

Out of a time out the Nittany Lions set up an inbounds play which the Fighting Tigers contained effectively. However off the ensuing scramble the visitors got the ball to senior point guard Janaiah Elum, Philadelphia, Pa, Northeast High School, who let fly a 28-foot heave that found the bottom of the net with 10 seconds remaining to tie the contest at 49-49.

On their ensuing possess the Orange & Black could not get a quality opportunity forcing the contest into an overtime stanza which the Nittany Lions controlled almost from the jump to secure the conference win.

Freshman forward Morgan Bullis, Bainbridge, N.Y., Bainbridge-Guildford High School, played a strong game in defeat for the home team posting a double/double with 15 points and 12 rebounds to go with four assists and five steals while senior guard/forward Ashley Creighton, Niskayuna, N.Y., Catholic Central High School/Schenectady Community College, added a team high of 16 points along with three assists and three rebounds on the day for Cobleskill.

The Fighting Tigers will head back to the court on Wednesday February 10th when they meet the Mustangs of Morrisville State College in NEAC action beginning at 7:00 p.m.
