Purchase, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball dropped a pair of non-league road contests on Tuesday as the Fighting Tigers fell to the host Panthers of SUNY Purchase by scores of 13-2 and 9-1. With the losses the Fighting Tigers drop to 0-16 overall on the season to date while the host Panthers improve to 17-9 on the campaign.
In the opener the Panthers used an eight-run second inning to put the contest out of reach as Purchase hitters ripped Fighting Tiger pitchers for 12 hits including six for extra base hits.
Offensively Cobleskill sophomore shortstop
Jaimee Lord, Mechanicville, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, was 1-for-3 with an RBI while freshman second baseman
Georgianna Crisci, Walden, N.Y., Valley Central High School, was 2-for-3 on the afternoon.
In the second game, the Fighting Tigers defense once again failed to impress as the Orange & Black committed five errors in the game which led to five Panther tallies.
Junior designated hitter
Casey Haughney, Melrose, N.Y., Hoosic Valley High School, stretched her current hitting streak to seven games going 1-for -2 at the plate with a double and the team's lone run batted in. Junior center fielder
Gabriella Barilli, Bellerose, N.Y., Sacred Heart Academy, was also a factor in the game with the bat going 2-for-3 with a run scored to cap a 3-for-5 day at the plate.
Cobleskill will return to action on Wednesday afternoon, April 20, when they host the Mustangs of Morrisville State College for a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests at Fighting Tiger Park with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
