Morrisville, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team made their final road trip of the season on Saturday traveling to Morrisville State College where the Orange & Black dropped a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests to the Mustangs 4-3 in nine innings and 8-0. The losses drop the Fighting Tigers to 2-24 overall on the year with a 2-16 record in league play while the Mustangs move to 9-27 overall including a 5-15 NEAC record.
In the first game Cobleskill took advantage of a pair of Mustang errors early on to score twice in the third inning only to see the home team tie the score in the bottom of the sixth inning after two were out. After taking a 3-2 lead in the eighth inning, the visitors once again could not hold their advantage allowing the Mustangs to tie the contest at 3-3.
The Mustangs then put the contest in the win column when sophomore shortstop Holly Gamlen, Cazenovia, N.Y., Cazenovia High School, singled home junior third baseman Paula Conklin, Sparrowbush, N.Y., Port Jervis High School, from third base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Fighting Tiger sophomore pitcher
Emily Anger, Atlanta, N.Y., Wayland-Cohocton High School, was once again the hard luck loser after working 8 2/3 innings allowing only two earned runs while striking out two and walking only one.
In the second game the Fighting Tiger bats could manage only four well scattered singles in the game with freshman catcher Gabrielle Danthine, Schoharie, N.Y., Schoharie High School, going 1-for-2 at the plate to finish 2-for-5 for the doubleheader.
Cobleskill is tentatively scheduled, weather permitting, to close out their season on Sunday May 1 when they host the Wildcats of Penn College for a pair of NEAC games beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Fighting Tiger Park.
