Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team ended a six-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon defeating the visiting Mavericks of Medaille College by an 18-5 margin in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. The victory improves the Fighting Tigers to 3-6 overall on the season including a 1-2 mark in league play while the Mavericks now fall to 0-5 overall with a 0-3 record in NEAC play.
Cobleskill started out the contest out in dominate fashion scoring the contest's first nine goals to secure the victory which was the team's first win at their newly renovated Soccer/Lacrosse Complex which opened this season.
The Fighting Tigers offensive explosion was keyed by freshman attackman
Garrett Vigrass, Wallkill, N.Y., Wallkill High School, who posted career high numbers on the afternoon with four goals, four assists to go with four ground balls picked up and by senior attackman
Alex Acompora, Harrison, N.Y., Harrison High School, who scored a game high five goals to go with an assist and four groundballs picked up.
The Orange & Black also received strong efforts from: junior midfielder
Kyle Magdziuk, Syracuse, N.Y., Westhill, N.Y., who scored two goals to go with an assist and six ground balls, freshman attackman
Sean Degnan, Monroe, N.Y., Monroe-Woodbury High School, who also scored two goals to go with an assist and six ground balls and from senior attackman
Chris Wright, Ronkonkoma, N.Y., Connetquot High School, who had two goals in the win. Freshman midfielder
Jake McCarthy, Kings Park, N.Y., Kings Park High School, and freshman attackman Glens Falls, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy, joined in the scoring party playing major roles in the victory each with a goal and an assist on the afternoon.
On the defensive end of field the Fighting Tigers snuffed out all 15 of the Maverick's power play opportunities while forcing 19 Medaille turnovers and successfully completing 16-off-22 clearing opportunities on the afternoon.
Junior goalie
John Montainiz, Lindenhurst, N.Y., Lindenhurst High School, was the defensive anchor through three quarters of work for the winners posting the victory with 11 saves, two ground galls and a pair of caused turnovers on the day.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday April 16
th when they host the Wolfpack of Keuka College for a NEAC contest with face-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
