Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 non-conference decision to visiting Utica College at the Iorio Gymnasium on Wednesday evening by set scores of 25-8, 25-12 and 25-21. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 6-10 overall on the year while the Pioneers improve to 5-13 overall on the campaign.
After dropping the first set by a lopsided 25-7 tally, the Fighting Tigers jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the second set before the visitors from Utica wrestled control away from the home team to post the win. The third set saw Cobleskill once again jump out to an early 3-1 advantage before being outscored 12-4 in the middle of the contest giving the Pioneers a 13-5 lead from which they never looked back.
The Fighting Tigers were led by sophomore middle hitter
Emilie Reimer, Mattituck, N.Y., Mattituck High School, who had a team high of 10 kills to go with two service aces and by freshman outside hitter
Rachel Sherman, Galway, N.Y., Galway High School, who had 10 digs and two service aces on the night.
Cobleskill will next be in action over the weekend on Saturday October 1
st and Sunday October 2
nd when they travel to Reading, Pa for a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Crossover Weekend hosted by Penn State Berks. The Fighting Tigers will open play at 12:00 p.m. versus the host Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks prior to meeting the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College at 3:00 p.m. The team will then conclude the weekend on Sunday October 2
nd with an 11:00 a.m. meeting with the Wildcats of Penn College.
