Fighting Tiger Women's Basketball Notches 61-57 NEAC Road Win at Gallaudet

Preston and Creighton Lead Fighting Tigers Past Gallaudet Bison 61-57


Washington, D.C.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team closed out their weekend North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road trip on Sunday afternoon by out battling a determine group of Bison from host Gallaudet University by a 61-57 tally. With the win the Fighting Tigers move to 8-7 overall with a 4-4 mark in conference action while the Bison fall to 2-13 overall including a 2-9 conference record.

The Fighting Tigers started fast moving out to 20-13 first quarter lead and never trailing in the contest despite an opportunistic Bison defense which generated 21 points off 23 Cobleskill turnovers and an offense which scored 11 second chance points on the afternoon.
The contest was ultimately decided at the free throw line where the Fighting Tigers were able to convert on 16-of-27 attempts, 58.3%, as compared to the home squad's 8-for-19, 42.1%, effort.

Senior forward Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, posted her second double/double on the weekend with a team high of 19 points to go with a game high of 12 rebounds and three assists while fellow senior guard/forward Ashley Creighton, Niskayuna, N.Y., Catholic Central High School/Schenectady Community College, added 17 important points and three rebounds. Freshman guard Shaliyah Graham, Bronx, N.Y., Martin Luther King Jr. High School, continued to be a force off the bench for the Orange & Black scoring 11 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and two steals in a reserve role.  

Cobleskill will return to action on Wednesday January 25th when they host the Wildcats of Cazenovia College in league action as part of a women's/men's doubleheader with the women taking the court at 5:00 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:00 p.m.
