Cazenovia, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team took to the road on Wednesday evening to post an important 62-51 victory in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play over the host Wildcats of Cazenovia College. With the win the Fighting Tigers move to 12-7 overall on the season including an 8-4 record versus league opponents while the Wildcats now drop to 3-14 overall with a 2-9 conference record.
Playing for the second time against each other in seven day ;the Fighting Tigers and the Wildcats slugged it out throughout the contest which was a hard hitting defensive affair as neither team offensively shot well with Cobleskill hitting on 20-of-66, 30.3%, from the field and Cazenovia fairing only slightly better at 16-of-52, 30.8%, on the evening.
In the end it was the Fighting Tigers defense that prevailed as it turned 20 Wildcat turnovers into 15 important points which led to the road victory for the visitors and extended their current winning streak to six games.
Freshman
Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School, continued to be the team's catalyst posting her first career double/double with a team high 18 points to go with 11 rebounds, six steals and four assists while senior forward
Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, posted seventh double/double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
The Fighting Tiger bench also played a major role in the win with freshman guard
Shaliyah Graham, Bronx, N.Y., Martin Luther King Jr. High School, coming off the pines to score eight points grab five rebounds and record three steals and senior guard
Shiann Coons, Albany, N.Y., Bishop Maginn High School/Schenectady Community College, scoring eight points and grabbing two rebounds in a reserve role.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday February 4
th when they travel to Marcy, N.Y. to face the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute in NEAC play beginning at 1:00 p.m.
