Fighting Tiger Lax Opens Season With 11-4 Win Over Lyndon State on Sunday

Jeremy Mowrey Scores Four Goals in Cobleskil Debut as Fighting Tigers Roar Past Hornets


Schenectady, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team opened their 2017 campaign in successful fashion on Sunday afternoon as the Fighting Tigers used a strong second half to post an 11-4 win over the visiting Hornets of Lyndon State College in a non-league game played on the turf at Union College's Bailey Field. With the win Cobleskill opens the season at 1-0 while Lyndon State starts the season off with a 0-1 mark.

Leading 3-1 at the half, the Fighting Tigers exploded for five goals in the third to take an 8-1 lead from which they never looked back.

Junior attackman Jeremy Mowrey, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School/Herkimer Community College, made a splash in his Cobleskill debut as the speedy attackman scored four goals and passed out one assist to lead the way while freshman attackman Robert Gioielli, Wallkill, N.Y., Wallkill high School, and sophomore midfielder Anthony Yevoli, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, each added a pair of goals on the afternoon. Sophomore attackman Garrett Vigrass, Wallkill, N.Y., Wallkill High School, was also a factor in the win with three assists on the afternoon.

In the net senior goalie John Montaniz, Lindenhurst, N.Y., Lindenhurst High School/Suffolk Community College, consistently turned back the Hornets throughout the afternoon making 18 saves to go with three ground balls on the day.

The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Saturday March 4th when they are scheduled to travel to Poultney, Vt. to face the Eagles of Green Mountain College in non-conference action beginning at 1:00 p.m.
