Morrisville, N.Y.: In a game that could have possible North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play-off ramifications in terms of seeding, the SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team posted an important 74-63 road win over the host Mustangs of Morrisville State College on Wednesday evening. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 13-8 overall on the campaign including a 9-5 conference record while Morrisville State now falls to 14-6 overall with a 9-4 record in NEAC action.
The Fighting Tigers used a balance inside/outside attack to subdue the host Mustangs as Cobleskill connected on a season best 11-of-22, 50.0%, from beyond the three-point line compared to Morrisville's 3-for-16, 16.7%, effort from beyond the arch. The Orange & Black also dominated the glass as their front line out boarded their hosts by a 41-to-31 margin.
Senior forward
Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, led the inside assault for the Fighting Tigers pounding the home squad in the paint for a double/double with 21 points and 13 rebounds along with four assists and a blocked shot while sophomore center
Brianna Florian, Fort Plain, N.Y., Fort Plain High School, came off the bench to score 10 points, grab six rebounds and block a shot on the evening.
The visitors also received strong play from senior forward
Ashley Creighton, Niskayuna, N.Y., Catholic Central High School/Schenectady Community College, with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists and from freshman guard
Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School, who had eight points, four assists and three rebounds. Freshman guard
Erica Cabrera, Middletown, N.Y., John S. Burke Catholic High School, was also a factor in the win with six points, four assists and two rebounds.
Cobleskill will return to action over the weekend when they make their final NEAC road trip of the regular season traveling to Abington, Pa. on Saturday February 11
th for a 1:00 p.m. meeting with the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington prior to a Sunday February 12
th contest versus the Lions of Bryn Athyn College in Bryn Athyn, Pa. starting at 12:00 p.m.
