Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team returned home to the Iorio Gymnasium on Tuesday evening to fall to the visiting Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in non-conference play by a 65-46 margin at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the defeat the Fighting Tigers drop to 2-1 overall on the year while MCLA evens their record at 1-1 on the season.
Trailing by a 26-23 margin at the half the Fighting Tigers stalled in the second half as the Trailblazers outscored their hosts 39-23 after the break while connecting on 18-of-26 free throw attempts, 69.2%, as compared to Cobleskill's 6-of-14, 42.9%. MCLA also held an 18-to-8 advantage in second chance points on the evening.
Junior guard
Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School, came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 10 points to go with nine rebounds and four steals while sophomore forward
Kristena Westerfeld, Margaretville, N.Y., Margaretville High School, added eight points and six rebounds on the evening. Cobleskill also received a seven point, six rebound, three assist effort from sophomore guard/forward
Monique Britton, Westerlo, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, with junior point guard
Erica Cabrera, Middletown, N.Y., Burke Catholic High School, chipping in nine points and two assists.
The Orange & Black will return to action on Friday November 16
th when they travel to Canton, N.Y. to meet the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton in the opening round of the Kevin Fee/Roos Classic with tip-off at 7:00 p.m. before closing the event on Saturday November 17
th when they face the Bears of SUNY Potsdam at 1:00 p.m.
