Fighting Tigers Win Third Straight Behind Nelson's 32 Point/12 Rebound Effort

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team extended their current winning streak to three games on Thursday evening defeating the visiting Eagles of Green Mountain College by a 60-55 margin at the Iorio Gymnasium in non-league action. With the win the Fighting Tigers move to 6-2 overall on the year while the Eagles fall to 4-3 overall on the season.

The Fighting Tigers led at the half 30-23 then extended their lead to 18 points with 15:48 left in regulation at 42-24 after opening the second half on a 12-1 run.
However the visitors proved to be resilient battling back to cut the lead to one point with 1:08 left to play when junior guard Greg Alexander, Middle River, Md., Cecil College, hit the first of two free throws.

Cobleskill then turned to senior swingman Dashown Nelson, Brooklyn, N.Y., High School of Telecommunication Arts & Technology/SUNY Broome, who nailed a 12 foot jumper with 52 seconds left then grabbed a rebound off a missed Eagle three-pointer with 10 seconds left then converted two free throws after being followed by the Eagles to seal the game.

Nelson was the catalyst for the Fighting Tigers victory as the talented senior was the team's only double digit scorer with a game high of 32 points to go with 12 rebounds and two blocked shots while sophomore swingman Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, scored eight points to go with six rebounds and three assists. Cobleskill sophomore point guard Scott Glasheen, Voorheesville, N.Y., Voorheesville High School, also contributed to the win with seven points and seven assists.

The Orange & Black will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Troy, N.Y. for a meeting with the Hawks of Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at the East Campus Arena at 2:00 p.m.
