Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team returned to the Iorio Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon to out muscle the visiting Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks by a score of 93-66 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 6-14 overall on the season including a 3-9 mark in conference action while the Nittany Lions are now 2-18 overall with a 2-10 record in NEAC play.
After trailing 41-to-38 at the break, the Fighting Tigers dominated play down the stretch in the second half going on a 26-to-2 run over the games last 7:32 to put the contest away as the home team controlled the glass by a 50-to-31 margin while displaying exceptional passing and unselfishness as 30 of their 35 baskets were assisted, on the afternoon.
Senior swingman
Joel Costello, Middleburgh, N.Y., Middleburgh High School/Tompkins-Cortland Community College, led the way for Cobleskill with a double/double of 17 points and 12 assists while senior guard
Malik Chambers, West Point, N.Y., James I. O'Neil High School, added a team high 19 points to go with five rebounds and three assists.
Cobleskill also received strong play up front with contributions from: freshman forward
Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, with 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals, junior forward
Anthony McNeil, Gresham, S.C., Union-Endicott High School/Broome Community College, with 13 points and nine rebounds, senior center
Christian Cooper, Gilboa, N.Y., Gilboa-Conesville High School, with nine points, two rebounds and a blocked shot and from sophomore forward
Kahlil Wilson, New York, N.Y., The Renaissance Charter School, who filled the stat sheet with six points, nine rebounds, six steals and five assists in the win.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Sunday February 4
th when they host the Eagles of The College of Saint Elizabeth for a NEAC meeting at the Iorio Gymnasium beginning at 12:00 p.m.
