Cobleskill, N.Y.: On what is referred to nationally as Super Bowl Sunday, the SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team fell victim to the College of Saint Elizabeth's running game on the afternoon losing to the high scoring visiting Eagles by a 90-80 margin in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action at the Iorio Gymnasium. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 6-15 overall with a 3-10 record in conference play while the Eagles move to 7-13 overall with a 3-9 conference record.
In a fast paced affair that featured seven ties and six lead changes the Fighting Tigers held a 40-39 advantage at half time. However, in the second half, the Eagles broke a 48-48 tie with 15:55 left to play by going on a 9-0 run to take a 57-48 lead with 13:22 left to play from which they never looked back.
The two areas that hurt the home team throughout the afternoon where three-point shooting and free throws as Cobleskill shot only 3-for-25, 12.0%, from three-point range and made only 15-of-24, 62.5%, shots from the charity stripe on the afternoon.
Senior swingman
Joel Costello, Middleburgh, N.Y., Middleburgh High School/Tompkins-Cortland Community College, led the team in scoring with 24 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds while junior forward
Anthony McNeil, Gresham, S.C., Union-Endicott High School/Broome Community, posted a double/double with 17 points and 13 rebounds along with four assists and three blocked shots on the afternoon.
The Orange & Black also received contributions from sophomore guard
Devin Boyle, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School, who scored 16 points and passed out two assists and senior guard
Malik Chambers, West Point, N.Y., James I. O'Neil High School, who had 14 points and four rebounds.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Wednesday when they meet the Wildcats of Cazenovia College in NEAC action beginning at 5:00 p.m.
