Fighting Tiger Baseball Splits Doubleheader with College of New Rochelle

New Rochelle, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's baseball team broke into the win column today splitting a non-conference doubleheader with the Blue Angels of the College of New Rochelle taking the first game 4-3 then dropping the nightcap 11-10 in five innings in games played at New Rochelle City Park. With the split the Fighting Tigers move to 1-9 overall on the campaign while New Rochelle falls to 2-13 on the year.

In the opener Cobleskill trailed 3-2 going into the top of the seventh inning when freshman catcher Corey Tingo, Selden, N.Y., Newfield High School, singled home junior shortstop Lucas Butcher, Bainbridge-Guilford High School/Mohawk Valley Community College, who had singled and freshman third baseman Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, who was hit by a pitch.

Freshman Jacob Hoffee, Lyndonville, N.Y., Lyndonville High School, then took to the mound to strike out the side in the bottom of the inning to earn his first career save and to make a winner out of junior Jordyn Schwark, Kingston, N.Y., Kingston High School/SUNY Adirondack, who pitched strong six innings allowing only two earned runs on four hits striking out 10 while walking four to even his record at 1-1 on the year.

Corey Tingo proved to be the offensive catalyst to the victory going 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.

In the nightcap Cobleskill held a 10-7 lead going into the final inning despite committing six errors defensively which led to five unearned runs. However the Blue Angels rallied in the bottom of the frame for four runs to scratch out the comeback victory.

At the plate the Fighting Tigers scored a season high of 10 runs on eight hits with third baseman Eddy Garcia going 2-for-3 at the dish with two doubles, two RBI and a run score and with freshman second baseman Mitchell Holmes, Dartmouth, Mass., Bristol County Agricultural High School, also going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
