Fighting Tiger Men's Lax Scores Dramatic Overtime Win Over Keystone College 12-11

Cobleskill Lax Posts 12-11 Road Win at Keystone College


Keystone, Pa.: After being forced back inside to practice due to a pair of heavy late season snow storms, the SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team returned to action on Thursday evening traveling to Keystone College to post a dramatic 12-11 overtime victory over the host Giants in non-conference action. With the win the Fighting Tigers even their overall season record at 1-1 while Keystone is now 0-3 on the campaign.
 
The Fighting Tigers entered the fourth quarter trailing the home team 9-8 and found themselves down 11-9 with 3:48 left to play in regulation when junior attackman Sean Degnan, Monroe, N.Y., Monroe-Woodbury High School, scored off a feed from sophomore attackman Kiran Tierney, Marcellus, N.Y., Marcellus High School, to make it 11-10. The visitors then tied the contest at 11-11 with only 39 seconds left in regulation when senior attackman Jeremy Mowrey, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School, Herkimer Community College, found the back of the net to send the game into overtime.
 
With time winding down in the extra session, Jeremy Mowrey once again played the hero ending the contest with the game winner with only 47 seconds left on the clock to give the Fighting Tigers their first win of the season. Mowrey finished the contest with three goals and seven ground balls picked up for the Orange & Black on the evening.
 
Junior attackman Garrett Vigrass, Wallkill, N.Y., Wallkill High School, was the team's top scorer with five goals, an assist to go along with eight ground balls picked up on the evening with Sean Degnan continuing his strong early season play with a goal and an assists. Junior midfielder Jake McCarthy, Kings Park, N.Y., Kings Park High School, also scored for Cobleskill.
 
Defensively junior goalie Willie Wilson, Geneva, N.Y., Geneva High School,Tompkins-Cortland Community College, posted his first win as a Fighting Tiger win recording 11 saves while senior defenseman Zachary Wightman, Kerhonkson, N.Y., Roundout Valley High School, caused four turnovers and picked up eight ground balls to anchor the team's defensive unit.   
               
Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday March 10 when they travel to Elmira, N.Y. for a non-league meeting with the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College to be played at Notre Dame High School, with face-off at 1:00 p.m.
