Marcy, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's baseball team took to the road on Friday afternoon to meet the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action dropping a conference doubleheader to the host Wildcats during the afternoon by scores of 10-3 and 8-4. With the defeats Cobleskill moves to 2-21 overall including a 1-7 mark in league action while the Wildcats are now 9-15 overall with a 3-5 record in NEAC play.
In the first game, once again, Fighting Tiger defensive miscues played a major role in the decision as four Cobleskill errors led to five of the Wildcats'10 runs coming unearned.
Sophomore first baseman
Kyle Howard, Olean, N.Y., Portville High School, did the bulk of the Orange & Black's damage on offense going 2-for-3 with three RBI while freshman center fielder
Mitchell Holmes, Dartmouth, Mass., Bristol County Agriculture High School, went 2-for-2 with a walk and a pair of runs scored at the plate.
In the nightcap, the Fighting Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning when center fielder
Mitchell Holmes singled home freshman first baseman
Jacob Hoffee, Lyndonville, N.Y., Lyndonville Central High School, who had doubled to lead off the frame.
After the Wildcats scored four times in their half of the fifth inning to make it 4-2, Cobleskill tied the game in the seventh inning at 4-4 when freshman shortstop
Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, singled home junior
Lucas Butcher, Bainbridge, N.Y. Bainbridge-Guilford High School/Mohawk Valley Community College who had single and advance to third on a single by
Jacob Hoffee. Hoffee would eventually score on a game-tying single by
Mitchell Holmes.
However that was the extent of the visitor's scoring as the Wildcats pitching staff shut them down the rest of the way while scoring four more times themselves to secure the victory.
Cobleskill is next scheduled to return to action on Sunday April 29 when they host the Wolves of Keuka College for a pair of NEAC games at Fighting Tiger Park beginning at 12:00 p.m.
