Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team closed out their 2018 season at home on Tuesday afternoon by dropping a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) games to the Wildcats of Cazenovia College by scores of 3-2 and 9-1. With the losses the Fighting Tigers close the year with a 9-18 overall record including a 5-13 mark in NEAC action while the Wildcats head into the conference play-offs with an 18-16 overall mark with a 10-6 record in conference play.
In the opener the Fighting Tigers and Wildcats were locked into a classic pitcher's duel between Cobleskill's freshman lefty Rachel Hall, Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich High School, and the Wildcats senior righty Kelsey Morgan, Central Square, N.Y., Paul V. Moore High School, for seven innings.
In the end, the Wildcats claimed the victory on a third inning home run by freshman right fielder Alexandra Clifford, Clifton Park, N.Y., Shenendehowa High School, that hit the top of the wall and bounced over for the four-bagger.
Hall once again was a hard-luck loser after allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings of work striking out four and walking only one.
The Fighting Tigers were led offensively by freshman designated hitter Edyliese Aquino, Stamford, Conn., Westhill High School, who went 1-for-2 with a double and a RBI.
The second game saw the Wildcats jump out to an early 5-0 lead from which they never looked back to claim their victory.
For Cobleskill senior third baseman Hannah Hoffman, Troy, N.Y., Averill Park High School/Hudson Valley Community College, went 1-for-3 with a RBI in her last collegiate game while sophomore center fielder Quesha Sells, Cobleskill, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, was 2-for-2 at the plate.
Due to the many games throughout the NEAC that were lost due to weather conditions this spring; the Fighting Tigers scheduled doubleheader versus SUNY Polytechnic Institute has been cancelled and will not be made up.
