Lancaster, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team worked overtime on Saturday afternoon closing out their weekend North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road trip by defeating the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College (LBC) 76-67 in double overtime. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are now 8-5 overall on the year including a 2-3 record versus league opponents while the Chargers are now 3-11 overall with a 1-4 mark in conference play.
In a game that was as much a battle of wills and attrition as basketball the Fighting Tigers staved off defeat at the end of regulation when junior center/forward
Stacey Sprague, Grand Gorge, N.Y. , Roxbury High School, canned a pair of free throws with 11 seconds left to play then held the home team without a shot to close out the game. Sprague then hit a free throw with six seconds left on the clock at the end of the first overtime to tie the score at 66-66 and corralled a rebound with two seconds left on a missed Charger three-pointer to send the game to a second overtime.
In the second overtime the Fighting Tigers dominated the action outscoring their guests 10-1 as junior forward
Liyah Graham, Bronx, N.Y., Martin Luther King Jr. High School, and sophomore swing women
Monique Britton, Westerlo, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, scored combine for eight points to put the game out of reach.
Once again the Fighting Tigers were led by junior guard
Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School, who posted her third straight double/double with 15 points, a career high of 21 rebounds, along with four assists and three steals while junior center
Gabby Muraczewski, Hamilton Square, N.J., Southern Regional High School, controlled the paint with 19 points, eight rebounds and a blocked shot on the afternoon.
