Fighting Tiger Women's Basketball Nipped at Cazenovia College 54-53 in NEAC Action

Fourth Quarter Cold Spell Hurst Fighting Tigers in NEAC Road Loss to Wildcats

Cazenovia, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team traveled west on New York State 20 on Wednesday evening losing a hard fought battle to the Wildcats of Cazenovia College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action by a 54-53 margin. With the loss the Fighting Tigers are now 8-6 overall including a 2-4 mark in NEAC play while Cazenovia improves to 3-10 overall on the year with a 2-5 record in league action.

Fighting Tiger sophomore guard Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School, missed a jumpshot with one second left in regulation with Wildcat freshman guard Lucia Liverio, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, grabbing the rebound. However the officials ruled that Liverio was fouled while securing the rebound sending the Wildcat rookie to the line with the game hanging in the balance.

Liverio missed her first free throw attempt but connected on her second chance to give Cazenovia a 54-53 conference victory as Cobleskill could not hold a 32-23 halftime advantage and a 44-38 lead after three quarters as the Wildcats dominated the fourth quarter scoring by a 16-to-9 margin.

Junior center Gabby Muraczewski, Hamilton Square, N.J., Southern Regional High School, led the Fighting Tigers in scoring with 15 points along with six rebounds and four assists while Addy Lawson posted her fourth consecutive double/double with 12 points and 15 rebounds to go with five assists and a pair of blocked shots on the evening. Junior center/forward Stacey Sprague, Grand Gorge, N.Y., Roxbury High School, also played a strong game with 14 rebounds and eight points on the evening.

The Orange & Black are next scheduled to host the Wolves of Keuka College in NEAC action on Saturday January 19th beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Cobleskill's Iorio Gymnasium.
