Cazenovia, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team continued their winning ways posting their second consecutive road win on Wednesday evening defeating the Wildcats of Cazenovia College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action by a 75-62 margin. With the conference road win the Fighting Tigers are now 9-6 overall on the season including a 4-2 mark in NEAC play while Cazenovia falls to 7-8 overall with a 3-4 record versus league opponents.
Once again the combination of balanced offense and strong defense keyed the Fighting Tigers victory as the Orange & Black held the Wildcats to 23-of-58, 39.7%, from the field while holding a decided edge on the backboards at 43-to-30 on the night.
Sophomore swingman
Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, led the way for Cobleskill filling the stat sheet with a game high of 21 points to go with seven rebounds, two rebounds and three blocked shots while senior swingman
Dashown Nelson, Brooklyn, High School of Telecommunication Arts& Technology/SUNY Broome, posted his second consecutive double/double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward
Anthony McNeil, Gresham, S.C., Union-Endicott High School/SUNY Broome, was also a key contributor to the victory with 13 points and three rebounds on the evening. Â
The bench was also productive in the win for the visitors as junior guard
Daniel Owens, Albany, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy/Herkimer Community College, came off the bench to score 13 points, pass out six assists and pull down five rebounds with sophomore
Devin Boyle, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School, chopping in eight points, three steals and two assists in a reserve role.
The Fighting Tigers are next slated to host the Wolves of Keuka College in NEAC action on Saturday January 19
th at Cobleskill's Iorio Gymnasium with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
TIGER NOTES: With the win the Fighting Tiger victory total of nine games surpasses last year's season win total of eight games. Cobleskill is currently in second place in the NEAC North Division with a 4-2 conference record.
