Fighting Tiger Men's Basketball Derails Wells Express 80-51 in NEAC Action

Cobleskill Defense Shuts Down Wells College in 80-51 Conference Home Win


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team returned to the Iorio Gymnasium on Wednesday evening to derail The Express of Wells College 80-51 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are now 10-6 overall with a 5-2 record in conference action while Wells falls to 3-12 overall including a 1-5 record in league action.

The Cobleskill defense once again keyed the team's victory as the Fighting Tigers held The Express to 20-of-60, 33.3%, from the floor including 3-for-27, 11.1%, from three-point range while turning 16 Wells turnovers into 22 points on the evening.

Senior swingman Dashown Nelson, Brooklyn, N.Y., High School of Telecommunications/SUNY Broome was the catalyst to the win with a game high 22 points to go with six rebounds and three steals while sophomore swingman Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, had 10 points and five rebounds on the evening as part of a balanced Fighting Tiger attack which saw 11 different players score in the contest.

Also making strong contributions for Cobleskill were: junior guard Daniel Owens, Albany, N.Y., Christian Brothers High School/Herkimer Community College, with eight points, eight assists and five rebounds, sophomore guard Scott Glasheen, Voorheesville, N.Y., Voorheesville High School, who scored nine points to go with four assists and three rebounds and senior forward Anthony McNeil, Gresham, S.C., Union-Endicott High School/SUNY Broome, who scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds.  

The Orange & Black will next be in action on Saturday January 26th when they host the Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks in NEAC play with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
