Fighting Tiger Women's Basketball Downs Penn State Berks 60-53 in Conference Action

Cobleskill Defense Holds Nittany Lions to only 29.4% Field Goal Shooting in NEAC Victory

 

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team out clawed the visiting Nittany Lions from Penn State Berks by a 60-53 margin on Saturday afternoon at the Iorio Gymnasium in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are currently 10-6 overall on the year with a 4-4 mark in NEAC play while the Nittany Lions fall to 5-10 overall with a 4-6 record in conference action.

Cobleskill posted one of its best defensive efforts of the season versus the visitors from Reading, Pa. holding Berks to only 20-of-68, 29.4%, from the field including 1-fo-10, 10.0%, from three-point range while holding a 47-to-37 rebounding advantage on the afternoon to secure the win.

Junior center Gabby Muraczewski, Hamilton Square, N.J, Southern Regional High School, led the way for the Fighting Tigers with 16 points and nine rebounds with freshman guard TyLysa Martinez, Coram, N.Y., Longwood High School, chipping in a career high of 15 points to go with three rebounds.

The Orange & Black also received a strong effort off the bench from freshman forward Kristena Westerfeld, Margaretville, N.Y., Margaretville High School, with 11 points and seven rebounds while junior guard Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School, played a fine all-round game with nine points, a team high of 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals and a blocked shot on the afternoon.  

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Sunday afternoon, January 27th, when they host the Bengals of The University of Maine Fort Kent in non-league action at the Iorio Gymnasium with tip-off at 1:00 p.m.
