Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team returned to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action on Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 draw with the Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks at the Fighting Tigers Soccer/Lax Complex. With the draw the Fighting Tigers move to 6-4-2 including a 4-1-1 mark in NEAC action while the Nittany Lions are now 2-7-3 with a 1-3-2 conference record.
The Fighting Tigers earned a free kick in the 11
th minute when
Mame Amar (Manhattan, N.Y./Liberty High School) was fouled by a Nittany Lion defender. Senior
Boubacar Doucoure (Manhattan, N.Y./ John F. Kennedy High School) stepped up and delivered a cross to the back post that found the head of
Gregoire Diedhiou (Manhattan, N.Y./ Julie Richmond High School) to make it 1-0 for the Fighting Tigers. However, Penn State Berks responded 2 minutes later with a rebound goal by Nate Nguyen to tie the game up 1-1.
Both offenses continued to push for the winning goal with the Tigers having the best chance late in the second half, but
Mame Amar shot the ball just wide of the goal in the closing minutes. In overtime both teams created chances to win the game, but the goalkeepers answered every challenge. The Tigers ended the game with 25 total shots while the Nittany Lions had 20 total shots.
Freshman goalie
Rashawn Best (Brooklyn, N.Y./ Martin Luther King High School) ended the contest with 10 saves for the Fighting Tigers. Â
Cobleskill will close out the weekend on Sunday when they host the Wildcats of Penn College for a NEAC contest beginning at 12:00 p.m.
