Cobleskill Men's Soccer Clinches NEAC Play-off Bid With 4-2 Win Over Gallaudet

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team clinched a spot in the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday by defeating a stubborn herd of Bison from Gallaudet University by a 4-2 margin at the Soccer/Lax Complex in their final regular season home game on "Senior Day". With the win the Fighting Tigers improve to 8-4-4 overall on the year including a 6-1-2 record in NEAC action while the Bison are now 1-13-1 overall on the season with a 1-8 mark in conference play.

The Fighting Tiger senior class did the bulk of the damage on Saturday as right from the start senior midfielder Kalifala Konneh, Bronx, N.Y., Fredrick Douglas Academy, found fellow senior midfielder Mame Amar, Manhattan, N.Y., Liberty High School,  with a perfect pass on the run to make it 1-0 in the 11th minute of play. The in the 22nd minute, senior forward Emile Vwaza, Manhattan, N.Y., Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis High School, on a perfect pass from freshman Adama Diop, Harlem, N.Y., Fredrick Douglas Academy, to make it 2-0.

Leading  2-1 late in the second half after the Bison had converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute; Cobleskill received the eventual game winner in the 84th minute of play when sophomore forward Chris Gardener, Hudson, N.Y., Hudson High School, stole a pass in front of the Gallaudet goal and scored unassisted to make it 3-2.

But Gallaudet proved stubborn to put away as the Bison scored in the 89th minute to make it 3-2 forcing the Fighting Tigers to respond in the 90th minute when Emile Vwaza crossed a pass to freshman midfielder Derek Streeter, Ilion, N.Y., Central Valley High School, running free weakside to beat the Bison goalie and provide the 4-2 margin of victory.

The Orange & Black will return to action next weekend when they travel to Abington, Pa. on Friday November 1st to meet the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington in NEAC action beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by their regular season finale on Saturday November 2nd when they are scheduled to travel to Harrisburg, Pa. for a NEAC match-up with the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg with kick-off scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
