Fighting Tiger Women's Volleyball Comes Back to Defeat Bard College Raptors 3-2

Cobleskill Volleyball Grounds Bard Raptors 3-2 in Non-League Action


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team worked overtime on Tuesday evening to closed out their recent home stand by out battling the visiting Raptors of Liberty League member Bard College 3-2 by set scores of: 20-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-19 and 15-12. With the comeback win the Fighting Tigers improve to 9-7 overall on the season to date while the Raptors are now 6-11 overall on the year.

After falling behind 2-0 after the first two sets the Fighting Tigers staged a major rally taking sets three and four then coming from a 5-1 deficit in the deciding fifth set to claim the victory.
Once again the front line proved to be formidable down the stretch for the Orange & Black as junior middle hitter Rachel Burke, West Winfield, N.Y., Mt. Markham High School, had nine kills and four solo blocks on the evening, senior outside hitter Regan Hubner, Miller Place, N.Y., Rocky Point High School, chipped in nine kills to go with 11 digs and three assists with sophomore middle hitter Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, added seven kills and two solo blocks to the team's victory totals. 

The Fighting Tiger back row was also active in the win as junior setter Maleigha Ellithorpe, Cazenovia, N.Y., Cazenovia High School/Onondaga Community College, had 23 assists, five digs and a kill and senior libero Mikayla Catherman, Marietta, N.Y., Marcellus High School, added a match high 48 digs to go with a pair of service aces on the night.

Cobleskill will return to action on Saturday October 12th when they travel to Reading, Pa. for a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Triangular Match featuring the Bison of Gallaudet University and the Chargers of the host institution Lancaster Bible College. The Fighting Tigers will meet Gallaudet Bison at 2:00 p.m. then close out the day with a match against the host Chargers at 4:00 p.m.
