North Adams, Mass.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team closed out the non-league portion of their schedule on Tuesday evening by losing a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to the host Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA). With the loss the Fighting Tigers are now 3-8-1 overall while the Trailblazers improve to 2-9-1 on the campaign.
With the game knotted at 2-2 in the 88
th minute of play Trailblazer sophomore midfielder Madeline Gibney, Rensselaer, N.Y., Columbia High School, converted on a penalty kick to give the host Trailblazers the lead and eventual margin of victory.
The Fighting Tigers had held the halftime lead at 2-1 as sophomore forward
Chloe Antalek, Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Beacon High School, scored the game's first goal from the top of the box on a cross from freshman midfielder
Anna Post, Bovina Center, N.Y., Delaware Academy, in the contests eighth minute of action.
After MCLA tied the score at 1-1 in the 28
th minute of play
Anna Post scored unassisted in the 39
th minute of action to give the visitors the lead at 2-1. Â
Sophomore goalie
Abigail Wetsel, Schoharie, N.Y., Schoharie High School, had 11 saves in net for the Orange & Black as the Trailblazers held a 19-to-17 advantage in shots and a 4-to-0 advantage in corner kicks over the Fighting Tigers on the evening.
Cobleskill will return to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play over the weekend when they host the Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks on Saturday October 12
th with kick-off at 3:00 p.m. and then on Sunday October 13
th when they play host to the Wildcats of Penn College at 2:00 p.m.
