Alfred, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team closed out their weekend Western New York road trip on Saturday by defeating Alfred State College in impressive fashion by a score of 88-61 in their finale of the 2019 Special Tee's Tip-off Classic in a game played at Alfred University to finish the event unbeaten. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are now 3-0 overall on the year while the Pioneers fall to 0-2 overall on the season to date.
The Fighting Tigers put the game away in the first half jumping out to a 52-23 lead on the strength of suffocating defense and efficient offense as the Orange & Black converted on 22-of-41 shots from the field, 53.7%, including 5-of-12 from three point range, 41.7%, while holding Alfred State to only 9-of-32, 28.1%, from the field and 3-for-12, 25.0%, from three-point range, in the half.
Senior swingman
Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, led the assault for the winners with an 18 point, six steal, three assist, three rebound effort while senior guard
Daniel Owens, Albany, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy/Herkimer Community College, was equally impressive with 16 points, four assists, three steals and three rebounds in the victory.
The Fighting Tigers also received stellar efforts from junior swingman
James Conteh, Queens, N.Y., The Patrick School/SUNY Sullivan, with 15 points and five rebounds and from junior guard
Khayri Harris, Queens, N.Y., Springfield Gardens High School/SUNY Ulster, who came off the bench to score 16 points and pass out three assists. Â
Cobleskill will next be in action at home when they host the Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) for a non-league contest with tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
