Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team saw their three-game winning streak snapped this evening by the visiting Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) by a score of 80-60 in non-conference action at Cobleskill's Iorio Gymnasium. With the loss, the Fighting Tigers are now 3-1 overall on the season to date while the Engineer's improve to 1-2 overall on the campaign.
With the scored tied at 21-21 with 4:42 remaining in the first half RPI flexed their power repeatedly attacking the paint to go on a 12-to-2 run to close out the half behind the play of junior forward Patrick Mahoney, Ossining, N.Y., Fordam Prep., who scored four points and passed out an assist during the run.
During the second half the Fighting Tigers cut the lead to six points with 11:40 remaining in regulation after trailing by as many as 13 points, when junior
Devin Boyle, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School, connected from long range to make it 51-45 Engineers.
RPI then responded by using their inside muscle to repeatedly attack the Cobleskill interior defense behind Patrick Mahoney who finished the contest with 17 points and eight rebounds and sophomore forward Mason Memmelaar, Middletown, N.Y., a game high of 21 points to go with seven rebounds.
Cobleskill was led by senior guard
Daniel Owens, Albany, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy/Herkimer Community College, who scored a team high of 19 points to go with three rebounds and by senior forward
Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, who posted a double/double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Kevin Cadet, Roselle, N.J., Roselle Park High School, was also a factor for the Orange & Black off the bench scoring 11 points.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Tuesday November 19
th when they host the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College in non-conference action beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Iorio Gymnasium.
