SUNY Cobleskill Men's Soccer Upsets NEAC First Place Penn State Harrisburg 2-1

Fighting Tigers Defeat Nittany Lions 2-1 in NEAC Action on Saturday

Harrisburg, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team threw the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship Tournament seedings for a loop on Saturday; just 24 hours after a devastating 4-0 road loss at Penn State Abington on Friday afternoon, the Fighting Tigers roared back to upset the conference's previously unbeaten untied league leading Nittany Lions from Penn State Harrisburg 2-1 on the road in each program's regular season finale. With the win the Fighting Tigers improve to 9-5-4 overall including a 7-2-2 NEAC record while the Nittany Lions are now 14-5 overall including a 10-1 record in league action.

The Fighting Tigers struck first in the 14th minute of play when senior forward Emile Vwaza, Manhattan, N.Y., Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis High School, scored in the box on a pass from senior forward Mame Amar, Manhattan, N.Y., Liberty High School, to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Harrisburg tied the score at 1-1 in the 23rd minute when freshman midfielder Anthony LaVia,  Middletown, Pa., Middletown High School, found the back of the net unassisted.
Over the course of the next nearly 72 minutes of action, neither team could piece the opposition's defense until the 84th minute when Emile Vwaza scored the eventual game winner on a pass from sophomore Chris Gardener, Hudson, N.Y., Hudson High School that provided the 2-1 margin of victory.

Sophomore reserve goalkeeper Garrett Maxwell, Enfield, Conn., Suffield High School, recorded three saves on the afternoon which helped to preserve the lead and complicate the league's play-off picture.

Cobleskill will not wait to hear from the NEAC Championships Committee on the tournament seedings and venues by Monday November 4th.
