Newburgh, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team returned to the road on Friday evening continuing their winning ways by posting a 76-65 win over the Blue Knights of host Mount Saint Mary's College (MSMC) in non-league action to extend their current winning streak to three games. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 6-1 overall on the season while MSMC is now 2-5 overall on the campaign.
Cobleskill led 35-31 at the break then after the teams traded baskets through the opening minutes of the second half the Fighting Tigers went on a went on an 11-2 run over a five four minute span to make it 54-41 with 10:03 left in regulation and never looked back.
Once again the Fighting Tiger defense played a major role forcing the home team into 25 turnovers, including 14 steal, which they turned into 27 points on the evening while blocking five shots on the night. Additionally Cobleskill held the Blue Knights to 22-of-54, 40.0%, shooting from the field including only 5-of-19, 26.3%, from three-point range on their home court.
Offensively, junior forward
James Conteh, Queens, N.Y., The Patrick School/SUNY Sullivan, led the team in scoring with a game high of 25 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists while senior swingman
Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, posted his fourth double/double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while picking up four steals and blocking three shots on the evening.
The Orange & Black also received strong play off the bench from junior
Jahmr Jordan, Albany, N.Y., Albany High School/Fulton-Montgomery Community College, who returned from the disabled list to score nine points, grab three rebounds, make three steals and pass out a pair of assists in 26 minutes of action.
Cobleskill will close out the 2019 portion of their season on Saturday December 14
th when they make a quick turnaround, hosting the Spartans of Castleton University at the Iorio Gymnasium for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
