Fighting Tiger Men's Cagers Close Semester With 84-62 Home Victory Over Castleton University

SUNY Cobleskill Men's Basketball Improves to 7-1 on Season With 84-62 Home Win Over Castleton University

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team closed out their semester on Saturday afternoon by posting an 84-62 win over the visiting Spartans of Castleton University in non-conference action at the Iorio Gymnasium.  The victory helped them finish the 2019 portion of their schedule on a four-game winning streak. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 7-1 overall on the year while the Spartans are now 1-8 overall on the season. Cobleskill's 7-1 start to the season is the best in program history since the college moved to the NCAA Division III level of competition in 2008.

Once again the Fighting Tiger starting forwards did the bulk of the damage to the opposition as junior James Conteh, Queens, N.Y., The Patrick School/SUNY Sullivan, hit for a career high of 28 points to go with four rebounds and two assists while senior swingman Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, posted his fifth double/double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds along with four assists and two blocked shots on the afternoon. Senior guard Daniel Owens, Albany, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy/Herkimer Community College, also played a major role in the win contributing: eight points, five rebounds, four assists, a steal and a blocked shot to the victory.

The Orange & Black also received strong efforts off the bench from senior guard Devin Boyle, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School, with 12 points and two assists and from junior guard Jahmr Jordan, Albany, N.Y., Albany High School/Fulton-Montgomery Community College, who scored 11 points, grabbed three rebounds and passed out two assists in a reserve role.

Cobleskill will return to action after the holidays when they host the Gators of Sage College on Saturday January 4th at the Iorio Gymnasium with tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
