Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team opened the 2020 portion of their season on Saturday evening falling to the visiting Gators of Sage College by an 84-75 margin in non-league action at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the loss the Fighting Tigers drop to 7-2 overall on the season while the Gators are now 7-4 overall on the year.
The visitors from Troy, N.Y. dominated the backboard throughout the contest to secure the victory as the Gators out rebounded the Fighting Tigers by a 48-to-28 margin including 18 offensive rebounds which led to 15 second chance points in the win.
The Fighting Tigers were once again led by senior swingman
Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y, Taft High School, with a game high of 23 points along with seven rebounds, six assists and five steals with senior guard
Daniel Owens, Albany, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy/Herkimer Community College, chipping in 18 points and four assists. Junior forward
James Conteh, Queens, N.Y., The Patrick School/SUNY Sullivan, also reached double figures in scoring for the home team with 14 points on the evening.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action over the weekend when they return to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action traveling to Pennsylvania for a pair of conference contests beginning on Saturday January 11
th when they travel to Abington, Pa. to face the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to traveling to Harrisburg, Pa. for a league meeting with the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg beginning at 12:00 p.m.
