Fighting Tiger Men's Basketball Falls in OT at Penn State Abington 95-93

Cobleskill Men's Basketball Nipped in OT by PSA Nittany Lions 95-93 in NEAC Action


Abington, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team began their initial North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road trip of the year to Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon by dropping a high scoring overtime affair to the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington by a 95-93 margin. With the overtime loss the Fighting Tigers are now 7-3 overall including a 1-1 mark in NEAC action while the Nittany Lions blank to 7-4 overall with a 2-0 conference record.

The Fighting Tigers rallied from six down in the last 1:22 over regulation play to tie the contest at 84-84 on a three-pointer from senior guard Devin Boyle, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School, with only three seconds remaining for the game's ninth tie of the afternoon.

In the overtime, the host Nittany Lions raced out to a six point advantage early which they held until senior guard Daniel Owens, Albany, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy/Herkimer Community College, tied the contest for the 10th time with a three-point field goal with 33 seconds left at 91-91. However Abington would respond by scoring the next four points to secure the victory on their home court.

Junior forward James Conteh, Queens, N.Y., The Patrick School/SUNY Sullivan, led Cobleskill in scoring with 28 points on the afternoon while senior swingman Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, continued his fine overall play on both ends of the floor with a: 25 point, seven rebound, five assist, three steal, two blocked shot effort.

Daniel Owens finished the day with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists with Devin Boyle coming off the bench to score 15 points on the afternoon.

The Orange & Black will conclude the Pennsylvania road trip on Sunday afternoon, when they travel to Harrisburg, Pa. to meet the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg with tip-off scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
