Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team opened the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) season at home on Saturday afternoon by grinding out a 70-60 win over the visiting Wildcats of Penn College in league action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers run their current winning streak to three games while evening their overall record at 4-4 on the year including a 1-0 mark in NEAC action while the Wildcats fall to 1-5 overall with a 0-1 conference record.
In typical NEAC fashion the game was a hard hitting physical contest throughout the first three quarters featuring six ties and seven lead changes before the Fighting Tigers took the lead for good at 39-38 on a pair for free throws by senior guard
Monique Britton, Westerlo, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, with 6:56 remaining in the third quarter.
Down the stretch Cobleskill turned up the defensive pressure holding the Wildcats to only 12 points in the final quarter to secure the victory.
Once again junior guard
Nylasia Sutton, Queens, N.Y., Lansingburgh High School/Herkimer Community College, led the team in scoring with a game high of 24 points to go with six rebounds while senior forward
Gabby Muraczewski, Hamilton Square, N.J., Southern Regional High School, powered her way to a double/double with 10 points and 10 rebounds with
Monique Britton adding 10 points and four rebounds to the victory totals.
The Fighting Tigers will close out the first semester on Thursday December 12
th when they travel to Jamaica, N.Y. for a non-league meeting with the Cardinals of York College with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
