SUNY Cobleskill Men's Basketball Opens NEAC Play With 100-77 Victory Over Penn College

Fighting Tigers Hit Century Mark in 100-77 Victory Over Wildcats in Conference Play


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team opened the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) season at home on Saturday afternoon by posting an impressive 100-77 victory over the visiting Wildcats of Penn College in league action. With the win the Fighting Tigers move to 5-1 overall on the year including a 1-0 mark in NEAC action while the Wildcats fall to 2-6 overall with a 0-1 conference record.

Having been idle for 11 days due to weather related game cancellations; the Fighting Tigers came out sluggish initially trailing 9-0 at the 16:08 mark of the first half. However from that point on Cobleskill shifted into high gear outscoring the Wildcats 100-to-68 on the strength of an impressive shooting effort as the home team connected on 35-of-68, shots from the field, 51.5%, including 8-of-22 from three-point range, 36.4%, while hitting on 22-of-26, 84.6%, of their free throw opportunities.

Junior swingman James Conteh, Queens, N.Y., The Patrick School/SUNY Sullivan, led the assault on the Penn College defense with a double/double with a game high of 25 points to go with 10 rebounds and three assists while junior guard Khayri Harris, Queens, N.Y., Springfield Gardens High School/SUNY Ulster, tossed in 21 points and two assists in a starting role.

The Fighting Tigers also received strong efforts from: senior swingman Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, who scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, senior guard Scott Glasheen, Voorheesville, N.Y., Voorheesville High School, who tallied 12 points, five rebounds and five assists, senior guard Daniel Owens, Albany, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy/Herkimer Community College, who had 14 points and three rebounds and senior forward Kahlil Wilson, New York, N.Y., Renaissance Charter School, who grabbed a game high of 11 rebounds to go with eight points, five assists, three steals and three blocked shots.

Cobleskill will return to action on Friday evening December 13th when they travel to Newburgh, N.Y. for a non-league contest versus the Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary College with tip-off at 6:00 p.m. before returning home to close out the semester with a non-conference game versus the Spartans of Castleton University at the Iorio Gymnasium beginning at 2:00 p.m.
