Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball closed out their weekend North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) homestand on Sunday by defeating the visiting Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington by a score of 74-63 in conference play at the Iorio Gymnasium to end a three-game losing streak. With the win Cobleskill improves to 12-11 overall including a 6-8 mark in conference play while the Nittany Lions fall to 11-11 overall on the year with an 8-6 record in league action.
The Fighting Tigers proved to be too much inside for the Nittany Lions using their size to dominate the backboards by a 54-32 margin while hammering the visitors for 22 second chance points on the afternoon.
Junior guard
Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School, led the way for the Fighting Tigers with 26 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals on the day while converting on 7-of-15 shots from the floor and 11-of-12 free throw attempts.
The Fighting Tiger post players also enjoyed a productive day with three team members posting double/doubles in points and rebounds on the afternoon. The trio of: junior center
Gabby Muraczewski, Hamilton Square, N.J., Southern Regional High School, had 11 points to go with 10 rebounds and three blocked shots, junior center/forward
Stacey Sprague, Grand Gorge, N.Y., Roxbury High School, added 11 points and 10 rebounds and freshman forward
Kristena Westerfeld, Margaretville, N.Y., Margaretville High School, had 10 points to go with a game high of 15 rebounds and two assists in the win.
Cobleskill will return to action on Wednesday February 13
th when they travel to Utica, N.Y. to face the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute in NEAC action beginning at 5:00 p.m.
