Aston, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's baseball team broke into the win column on Sunday afternoon, something they did not accomplish until the ninth game of the 2018 season, splitting a doubleheader with the host Nittany Lions of Penn State Brandywine; taking the first game 11-0 in five innings, before falling in the nightcap by a score of 6-4. With the split the Fighting Tigers return home with a 1-3 record to open the season while the Nittany Lions open the campaign at 3-1 overall.
In the first game, the Fighting Tigers scored early and often tallying eight times in the first three innings to secure the victory as the Cobleskill offense pounded Nittany Lion pitching for nine hits to go with six walks and a hit batter.
Operating out of the lead-off spot sophomore center fielder
Mitchell Holmes, Dartmouth, Mass., Bristol County Agricultural High School, was the igniter or the attack going 2-for-2 with two walks, a pair of runs scored and a RBI while senior first baseman
Nate Carinci, Oneida, N.Y., Oneida High School/Jefferson Community College, was 1-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI. Â
Cobleskill also received strong offensive efforts from sophomore shortstop
Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, who went 1-for-3 with a walk two stolen bases, two runs scored and two RBI and from freshman right fielder
Anthony Disla, Bronx, N.Y., Metropolitan Soundview High School, who was 1-for-3 a bases loaded triple that led to three RBI and a run scored.
Freshman right hander
Tim Curtis, Slate Hill, N.Y., Minisink Valley High School, scattered eight hits striking out three and walking two to post the shutout victory.
In the second game the Fighting Tiger defense committed three early errors which led to five unearned runs and a 6-1 deficit entering the top of the sixth inning before taking advantage of a hit batter, a pair of walks and two wild pitches along with a RBI single from junior left fielder
Jayson Maxwell, Newport, N.Y., Notre Dame High School, and a run scoring force out from pinch hitter freshman
Frank Leger, Bronx, N.Y., All Hallows High School, to rally back into the game. Â
However the in the seventh inning the Orange & Black went down in order as the Nittany Lions registered the victory to take the weekend series.

The Cobleskill offense was led by
Jayson Maxwell who went 2-for-4 on the afternoon with a double, a run scored and a RBI and by sophomore shortstop
Eddy Garcia who continued his hot streak at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a pair of runs scored.
Sophomore right hander
Daniel Wade, Jefferson, N.Y., Jefferson High School, was the hard luck loser for the visitors working five innings allowing: six runs, five of which were unearned, on only four hits while striking out four and walking five.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Friday March 8
th when they travel to Hackettstown, N.J. for a doubleheader versus Centenary University with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
