Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team lost a hard fought 78-73 decision to the visiting Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon at the Iorio Gymnasium in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. With the defeat the Fighting Tigers are now 11-11 overall with a 5-8 record in conference play while the Eagles improve to 12-6 overall with a 10-3 mark in NEAC action.
The tipping point in the contest turned out to be 27 Fighting Tiger turnovers that led to 25 Eagle points and a 70-55 lead by the visitors with 6:19 left in regulation. From that point Cobleskill outscored Saint Elizabeth 18-to-8 down the stretch but could come no closer than 76-72 with 22 seconds remaining.
Junior center/forward
Stacey Sprague, Grand Gorge, N.Y., Roxbury High School, led the way for the Orange & Black with a game high of 22 points to go with eight rebounds and two assists while freshman forward
Kristena Westerfeld, Margaretville, N.Y., Margaretville High School, added 16 points, a game high of nine rebounds and a blocked shot on the afternoon.
Cobleskill also received strong efforts from junior guard
Addy Lawson, Milford, N.Y., Milford High School, with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots and from junior guard
Erica Cabrera, Middletown, N.Y., Burke Catholic High School, who scored 11 points to go with six rebounds and two assists.
The Fighting Tigers will return on Sunday February 10
th when they host the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington in NEAC action beginning at 12:00 p.m.
