Port Charlotte, Fla.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's baseball team opened their portion of the 2019 Snowbird Classic on Monday by dropping a doubleheader to the Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary College from Newburgh, N.Y. losing the opener by a 7-3 margin then losing the nightcap by a score of 5-2. With the defeats the Fighting Tigers are now 3-6 overall on the season while the Blue Knights move to 6-3 overall on the year.

In the first game the Fighting Tiger defense did not arrive for the early innings as three errors, a passed ball and five stolen bases allowed Mount Saint Mary to score four unearned runs of their seven in the opening four innings putting the game out of reach.

Cobleskill starter Devin Lewis, Cobleskill, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, took the loss working the first four innings allowing three earned runs on eight hits striking out one and walking one to fall to 0-2 overall on the year.

The Fighting Tiger pitching staff also received a strong relief outing from freshman Jeremy Jenoure, Millbury, Mass., Millbury High School, who worked three scoreless innings giving up two hits, striking out two and walking one.

Offensively, sophomore shortstop Eddie Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored while sophomore center fielder Mitchell Holmes, Dartmouth, Mass., Bristol County Agricultural High School, was 1-for-2 with a RBI.

In the second game the Blue Knights broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a pair of runs then tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth to secure the win as Cobleskill could not come up with timely hits leaving 11 runners on base in the game.

Freshman pitcher Tim Curtis, Slate Hill, N.Y., Minisink Valley High School, took the loss allowing three earned runs in five innings striking out two and walking three in the contest.
At the plate, sophomore right fielder Jason Sweredoski, Syracuse, N.Y., East Syracuse-Minoa High School, was 2-for-3 with a RBI for the Orange & Black.

The Fighting Tigers will return to action at the 2019 Snowbird Classic on Tuesday when they face The College of Wooster from Wooster, Mass. at 11:00 a.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. rematch with the Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary College.
