Fighting Tigers Softball Closes 2019 The Spring Games With Split

Cobleskill Softball Loses to Wesleyan University 5-0 Then Beats SUNY Farmingdale 6-0 to Close 2019 The Spring Games

Clermont, Fla.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team closed out the 2019 The Spring Games by splitting their final two games at the event on Thursday losing the opener to the Cardinals of Wesleyan University from Middletown, Conn. by a score of 5-0 prior to ending the day with a 6-0 shutout win over the Rams of SUNY Farmingdale from Farmingdale, N.Y. With the split the Fighting Tigers close out their spring road trip with a 1-7 overall record.

In the first game, the Fighting Tiger bats could do little damage managing only two hits versus Cardinal pitching and leaving six runners stranded on base in the contest.

Sophomore designated hitter Edyliese Aquino, Stamford, Conn., Middletown High School, continued her hot streak going 1-for-2 with a walk while freshman center fielder Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, was also 1-for-2 for Cobleskill at the plate.

Freshman pitcher Victoria Decker, Rifton, N.Y., Kingston High School, turned in a solid effort in defeat for the Fighting Tigers overcoming five Cobleskill errors to allow only three earned runs in seven innings of work striking our one and walking no one.

In the road trip's finale, Cobleskill sophomore left-hander Rachel Hall, Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich High School, held the Rams at bay throughout the game going the distance scattering six hits striking out two and once again walking none to record the victory and move to 1-3 overall on the year.

Offensively the Fighting Tigers used: timely hitting, aggressive base running along with five Farmingdale errors to record the victory led by junior left fielder Quasha Sells, Cobleskill, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, a run scored and a RBI and by freshman center fielder Jillian Nitchman who went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, a run scored and a RBI.

The Orange & Black will return to action when the open their 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) season on Saturday March 30th traveling to Aurora, N.Y. for a doubleheader with The Express of Wells College beginning at 1:00 p.m. then traveling to Keuka Park, N.Y. on Sunday March 31st for a pair of league games versus the Wolves of Keuka College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
